Hi all, I recently tried out a new recipe for Ayam Bakar using my air fryer and it turned out amazing! I just had to share it with you all. Here's the recipe:

Ayam Bakar (Air Fryer)

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into 4 pieces
  • 5 shallots, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 3 red chillies, sliced thinly
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste, mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 lemongrass stalk, bruised

Instructions:

  1. In a food processor, blend the shallots, garlic and red chillies until fine.
  2. Mix the blended shallot mixture with the tamarind water, brown sugar, salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder and cumin powder. Stir until well combined.
  3. Marinate the chicken with the spice mixture and lemongrass stalk for at least 2 hours in the fridge.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. Place the chicken pieces in the air fryer and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through.
  5. Once cooked, remove from the air fryer and serve with rice or your favourite sides.

This Ayam Bakar recipe is perfect for those who love a little bit of heat and sweetness. The air fryer makes the chicken extra crispy and juicy, without the need for too much oil. It's also a healthier option compared to traditional frying methods.

If you don't have an air fryer, you can also cook this dish on the grill or in the oven. Just make sure to keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
